Going to the gym is awesome, and I truly respect everyone who goes on a weekly basis. I always start my gym session with stretching. When I finish stretching and move into strength training, I often feel that just by stretching, I already did more for my body today than most people. The data shows that well under 20 percent of people in Canada go to a gym at least once a week. In other words, more than 80 percent of people do not have a weekly gym routine. Maybe in your community, or among the people around you, going to the gym feels normal. But in reality, it is not. For most people, regular training is still not a priority.
I believe that going to the gym is a great first step toward doing something good for yourself. You build discipline, and you also build strength, which is extremely important.
What's the difference between just going to the gym and mixing different sports?
When I tried going to the gym every day, usually by the fourth day I woke up feeling really tired. And that surprised me, because I actually love exercising. Training normally improves my sleep and gives me energy. But when the routine becomes gym every single day, there is a big chance that you start going just because you feel like you have to. You feel tired, your performance drops, and you don’t feel good during training. At that point, some of the benefits are lost. It slowly becomes a habit without joy. Going to the gym is still better than doing nothing, but there is a better way to do it. When I changed my routine and mixed sports, everything changed. After two gym sessions, I went swimming, and I felt amazing. I woke up full of energy again and ready for another gym workout. Then on Sunday, I played racket sports with friends, and I felt incredible. And it’s not just about the feeling. There are real benefits behind mixing different sports.
The real benefits of mixing different sports:
Better recovery for your body
Different sports use different muscles. While one part of your body works, another part recovers. This reduces overload and helps prevent injuries.
More energy instead of feeling tired all the time
Doing the same workout every day can drain you. Mixing sports keep your nervous system fresh, so you feel energized instead of exhausted.
Better performance in the gym
For instance swimming improves mobility and breathing. Racket sports improve coordination and speed. All of this transfers back into better strengh training performance.
Better sleep quality
When your body is challenged in different ways, not just heavy lifting, your sleep becomes deeper and more consistent.
Less boredom, more motivation
Doing different sports keeps things exciting. You stop feeling like "have to" work out and start wanting to move again.
Stronger, more balanced body
Gym builds strength. Swimming builds endurance and mobility. Racket sports build agility and reflexes. And hundreds of different sports can improve your gym performance.
Let me speak about consistency. It is the key to winning in many aspects of life, especially in fitness and a healthy lifestyle. Consistency means doing the right things regularly, even when you do not feel motivated. It is about showing up again and again, not being perfect every time.
How mixing different sports makes your more consistent?
Mixing different sports helps you stay consistent because it keeps things interesting. When you do the same workout every day, boredom and fatigue can appear quickly. By changing activities, your body and mind stay more engaged.
Having a simple plan makes a big difference. When you know what sport you will do and on which day, you remove the need to decide. There is no stress and no excuses. You just follow the plan.
Mixing sports also helps your body recover better. While one muscle group works, another one rests. This reduces soreness and lowers the risk of injury, which means fewer breaks and more regular movement.
Most importantly, mixing sports makes exercise more enjoyable. When something is fun, you want to come back. And when you come back regularly, consistency becomes a habit.
Consistency builds discipline, and discipline is what leads to real results.
Writing things down on paper always helps me. Every Sunday, I create a simple schedule for the week, something like this:

Is sport really a miracle?
Exercising, swimming, racket sports, yoga, or any other sport can completely change your day. It is amazing how movement affects your energy and mood. And still, only a small percentage of people do sports regularly.
Let’s be honest. Obesity has been increasing rapidly in Canada over the years. But this is not just about how your body looks.
Sport affects how patient you are with the people you love, how clearly you think, how well you sleep, and how you manage stress and money.
There is nothing better than doing sports. It really is a miracle. And it is not about having time. It is about creating a habit and living as if sport is a natural part of your life.
